What Is Basketball?
Basketball is a team sport in which two teams, most commonly of five players each, opposing one another on a rectangular court, compete with the primary objective of shooting a basketball through the defender's hoop, while preventing the opposing team from shooting through their own hoop. Players advance the ball by bouncing it while walking or running (dribbling) or by passing it to a teammate.
Elementary level basketball is now a 4 on 4 league. Teams are made up of grade 6 students, however, if more players are needed, grades 4 and 5 students may also join. There is no player cutting; all eligible students are allowed to participate. Mission School District's basketball season typically runs from October - December.
